The Wedding Pact (The O'Malleys)

The Wedding Pact (The O'Malleys) - Katee Robert So I had kinda high expectation of this.
I liked Carrigan and James in the first book and I liked all the action in the Wedding Contract.
But sadly this didn't live up to my expectations at all.
First the romance was too lusty. I mean it was total insta-lust in the first book. But I sorta hoped this would take a different take. The smut really didn't work for me, at all. And there was too much of it.
Mostly I couldn't stand James's smut talks. It felt too scripted and I kept thinking it felt like porn movie dialogue. Not in a good way. Not that I am sure if there are any good porn dialogues out there...
I didn't like Dimitri as well. He felt too cliche, was totally predictable. I didn't feel their connection, IMO it's all about lust. Where does the sudden big L come in? All to insta for me, quite frankly.
While I wasn't a fan of James dialogues, I did kinda end up liking him, kinda. Not so sure how I feel about him. He certainly has a white knight complex, which kinda endeared him to me, even if I think that's total mission impossible.
Carrigan was a tad too self-pitying and melodramatic at times. But I actually liked her POV.
And then there is Cillian and Aiden.. I want a book for both of them! In fact I've already started reading Cillian's Book, The Indecent Proposal. I am kinda hoping that Robert will write a novel for each one of the O'Malleys. I like Cillian's POV and I think there is more to Aiden that we got to see so far. Though I think that Kiera might get a book next? (I hope they all will!)
Which is surprising, considering the rating I gave this.. See the thing is this is still well written.
While I didn't like the romance and had some issues with both MCs, I found the last quarter of the book really interesting.
The plot was slower than the first book. It had this slow build up, but the last quarter was fast paced, there were new players thrown in, power structures are shifting and I was left wanting to know what will happen next to the O'Malleys. Well mostly to Cillian. As I said I like his POV.
I did like the ending, it's an interesting solution.

So while I don't much care for the two MC, didn't like the romance, I ended up enjoying the plot and am reading the next book.
It's an ok book for me. so 2 Stars, but I ain't giving up on the series by no means.
