2.5 StarsThis is the first novel I read by Green. I am not sure why, but something about it kept calling to me. I am not quite sure what I expected, I think more romance? It is after all marketed as a romance.
Though this is about love and definitely about relationships and about finding ones place in life. A romance I wouldn't call this.
It has beautiful moments, interesting moments and depths. But in some ways it felt not quite deep enough and in others it wasn't quite swooney enough. It's somewhere between a profound novel and a cute & fluffy and I have come to realise lately I like to have one or the other. I am not a fan of the middle thing. So I was huge on this.
I am intrigued yet disappointed.
The biggest let down for me though was that the characters while complex seemed not totally reachable. I like them, but somehow like with the rest of the book I never quite warmed up to them completely.
The entire experience, while definitely not horrible, felt a bit lacking.
Interesting novel. Beautiful writing. Yet somehow it failed to capture my attention completely.
