Truth Or Dare

Truth Or Dare - Aimee McNeil 1.5 Stars

Right from the beginning I found this too cliche and I didn't really like the writing style. It felt to wooden, too same same, I don't know, not unique enough? There are a lot of repeated phrases and we are told even more how beautiful Ash is... like every time he appears we are reminded of it.
The storyline is really one cliche after the other neatly lined up. There is a lot of back and forth- I hate / I want you. Lots of sexual attraction and we are told lots of chemistry and stuff... I didn't feel them however.
The character building is probably the best part of it. It's very cliche even if McNeil did add a quite interesting support cast. The support cast is actually the best part of the book.
The two MCs however. Beyond cliche. I mean Ashton is stoic, sexy, bad boy- oh yeah he is rich beyond riches... and we know about his car, his apartment, his love for his grandmother --- but we never actually get to know Ash, like ever. Neither does Sophia. She doesn't even know what job he works for example.. not any other personal details. I guess there are those two special moments where he takes her to the diner and his apartment but other than that? zilch. Zero
And that brings me to Sophia. She is too nice if you ask me, too tortured and too unaware of her own beauty. Apparently she is gorgeous, but she doesn't know it. She is so trusting and understanding. ... But actually she doesn't trust anyone, least her own feelings. She is also very superficial. Let's face it she keeps mentioning how others look, especially Ash. Okay he is attractive, she is into him, but she doesn't wanna know anything about him. They never really talk, the only moments of heart to hearts is their Truth or Dare game, which is another big cliche thrown in there.
I don't even wanna go into how Ash has treated Sophia in the past and his excuse? Wow. Kinda lame. All I can say someone gotta man up. Either he has to take the blame and apologize or she gotta tell him where to jump off. That part is a big no no for me.
But I did finish this book. And it's quite long wound. Still I finished it. I am not quite sure why. I mean I kept reading, put the book down and wonder if I should DNF. It is cliche and well... I kept reading. Because while it is just not for me, I kept hoping that it will improve... there is some potential, I guess. That and the support cast is quite nice.
